Youssouf Fofana spoke to the media ahead of AC Milan’s clash against Atalanta this evening, sharing his thoughts on the task at hand as well as his role.

The 2-2 draw against Pisa was a step in the wrong direction for Milan, following a very positive period. As such, they will be looking to bounce back tonight – just four days after the draw – against Atalanta at New Balance Arena.

Youssouf Fofana spoke to DAZN ahead of the game, as transcribed by MilanNews, and said he’s excited about playing such a big clash. He also made it clear that his role hasn’t changed just because Samuele Ricci is starting as well.

It’s a night of duels, especially in midfield. Does that excite you?

“Yes, it excites me because the level is raised. But I don’t think about the opponents, I think more about our teamwork. Let’s hope we play a good game.”

Ricci is playing and not Rabiot, does that change your role?

“No, it doesn’t change anything for me. I do the same job. With Ricci or Rabiot, the quality is high, it’s not a problem.”

You have played a lot this season…

“I work hard every day to be ready to play. I’m happy with the coach’s confidence. I want to give the team a helping hand.”

Fofana has faced some criticism for his performances lately, above all struggling in the defensive phase, so tonight will be an important test for the Frenchman. Max Allegri recently stated that the midfielder has tremendous potential, so there is clearly faith there.
