Former Hereford boss Addison dies aged 85

Former Hereford United manager Colin Addison - who was in charge when the Bulls beat Newcastle United in the FA Cup in 1972 - has died at the age of 85.

Addison also led Hereford into the Football League for the first time in the club's history.

During his playing career, Addison had spells at Nottingham Forest and Arsenal, before joining Hereford as player-manager in 1971.

The following year he led the non-league Bulls to victories over Cheltenham Town, King's Lynn and Northampton Town in the FA Cup before beating top-flight side Newcastle 2-1 at Edgar Street in a third-round replay.

Ronnie Radford cancelled out Malcolm Macdonald's opener for Newcastle before Ricky George scored the Bulls' winner in extra time.

Hereford FC, the phoenix club set up in the city in 2014 after Hereford United were wound-up, said they were "devastated" to learn of Addison's passing.
