Following the dismissal of Vitor Pereira, it's claimed Wolves is eyeing former Manchester United managers Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as potential replacements.
It's also believed that a former Liverpool boss is in the running. Pereira was shown the door by the Premier League team on Sunday after a dismal 3-0 loss to Fulham. Wolves has been struggling lately, failing to secure a win in the team's last 10 matches and languishing at the bottom of the Premier League standings with a mere two points.
As Wolves embark on its hunt for a new head coach, two familiar names have emerged as early frontrunners.
Ten Hag, who was let go by Bayer Leverkusen in September, had a brief and difficult tenure in the Bundesliga, overseeing just three matches – the shortest stint before being dismissed in German league history.
The Dutchman previously held the helm at United for over two years, managing 128 matches and guiding the Red Devils to FA Cup and Carabao Cup victories during his time there. Solskjaer is another contender for the vacant position.
The ex-United manager also recently found himself jobless after being sacked by Besiktas earlier this season due to failure to qualify for Europe.
Solskjaer led United for nearly three years, coming closest to winning a trophy in 2021 when his team fell to Villarreal in an exciting Europa League final penalty shootout.
Both managers had varying levels of success at Old Trafford, and despite the Norwegian overseeing 40 more matches than his counterpart, their win percentages are remarkably similar.
The odds are neck and neck for Ten Hag and Solskjaer, with Bet365 listing them at 54.69 percent and 54.17 percent, respectively. Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, Lee Carsley, and Gary O'Neil are also contenders for the Wolves job, among others.
The incoming manager will certainly have a tough task ahead. Wolves finds itself in a precarious position this season, with the three newly promoted teams showing impressive form.
Currently eight points from safety, the club faces a daunting challenge to avoid relegation. Burnley, sitting in 17th place with 10 points, is Wolves' closest competitor.
Should Ten Hag or Solskjaer take the helm at Wolves, they'll soon face their former United colleagues. The Red Devils are slated to play Wolves twice in the Premier League next month; first at Molineux on December 8, and then at Old Trafford on December 30.
In the interim, James Collins and Richard Walker, the head coaches of Wolves' U21 and U18 teams, respectively, will step up. They'll oversee training while the club continues its search for a new boss.
An official statement from the club confirmed that all eight members of Pereira's backroom staff have departed.
