Former Liverpool player sums up issue with Arne Slot's team that fans 'don't want to say'

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann is the latest to suggest the Reds are missing Trent Alexander-Arnold amid their current slump.

Arne Slot’s team has lost its last four games in all competitions - the first time that has happened to Liverpool since 2014. It faces Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League later, hoping to avoid making it five consecutive defeats, and matching an unwanted 72-year record.

The Reds’ struggles have brought the club’s major overhaul during the summer into sharp focus, with the majority of new signings still not having found their feet, while a number of pundits have suggested that one departure is being sorely missed.

Alexander-Arnold of course exited the club to sign for Real Madrid, and with his old side now on its worst run of results in just over a decade, the likes of Gary Lineker and Jamie Redknapp believe his absence is being felt.

Hamann agrees, and feels that Liverpool’s attempts to replace Alexander-Arnold’s output have not worked so far.

"Liverpool miss Trent Alexander-Arnold hugely, probably because he was the best passer in the league, even as a fullback,” Hamann told ESports News UK. “He was a playmaker from right-back and often moved into the middle.

"I believe his passing ability is sorely missed because they have a left-back who has been struggling defensively and in possession. At right-back, Conor Bradley is a genuinely good player, but he is a defender. He has his limitations with the ball.

Dietmar Hamann believes Liverpool is missing Trent Alexander-Arnold

"I think Liverpool miss him greatly, although people might not want to say it due to the circumstances of his departure."

Despite the current problems, Liverpool will have to try and find a way to bounce back from Sunday’s defeat at the hands of Manchester United.

The Reds’ trip to Germany didn’t get off to the best of starts, with the club forced to cancel its pre-match press conference after its flight to Frankfurt was delayed.

Slot and his players will have to put that and their slump behind them as they look to avoid falling to a fifth consecutive defeat.

"It's been a long time since that happened, a long, long time,” Hamann said on the Reds’ current form.

“They just have to stick together now and somehow find a way. They've got a tough game away to Frankfurt in the Champions League to get back on track.

"Confidence is obviously affected now after the defeat, which is normal because you always doubt yourself, whether you're good enough as an individual player or as a team.

"They just have to try to get a win and hope that things click. Florian Wirtz did okay when he came on, but is obviously still without a goal or an assist.

"Arne Slot just has to find a formation which he trusts, and where he's happy, because at the moment, regardless of what he tries with or without Wirtz, it's not happening."
