Former Liverpool winger quits new team after just 17 days to sign for 13th club of his career

Jordon Ibe’s unpredictable post-Liverpool journey has taken yet another turn, with the winger leaving non-league Sittingbourne – and the UK – just 17 days after joining to sign for the 13th club of his career.

The 29-year-old has moved to Bulgaria, agreeing a two-year deal with Lokomotiv Sofia, who currently sit 11th in the Bulgarian First League. He has once again taken the No. 33 shirt, a number he previously wore at Wycombe, Liverpool, Bournemouth and Adanaspor.

Ibe’s switch to Lokomotiv Sofia, where he is contracted until 2027, marks his latest stop after a short stint with eighth-tier Sittingbourne FC. Ibe even had a spell in the indoor soccer operation 'Baller League', but is now back to playing professionally.

Ibe was unveiled as a Sittingbourne player on October 28, with the non-league club expressing pride in helping him on “his journey to rediscover the joy of football.”

The clubs statement at the time said: “We’re proud to announce that Sittingbourne FC has been entrusted with supporting Jordon on his journey to rediscover the joy of football.

"After discussions between Jordon, his agent and the club, it was agreed that Sittingbourne provides the ideal environment with our recent successes and strong team culture to help him thrive once again.

“Jordon was influenced by the many positive things he’s heard about the club, and he believes this is the perfect place to rebuild momentum and showcase his talent. We’re delighted to play a part in helping him get back to where he belongs in the game.”

While Sittingbourne had hoped to benefit from Ibe’s ability for longer, it was always understood that his time there was meant to help him climb back up the football ladder. The Kent club has yet to comment on his departure, but his decision will come as little surprise.

When Ibe joined Liverpool in December 2011 as a highly rated 16-year-old, many predicted he could surpass even Raheem Sterling. But his time at Anfield never fully took off; he left in 2016 after 58 appearances and four goals. Spells followed at Bournemouth and Derby, while a proposed move to Swedish side Umea FC collapsed due to work permit issues despite a promising trial.

In 2021, Ibe spoke openly about his struggles with mental health, explaining how off-field challenges had played a significant role in preventing him from becoming the player many once expected. “I want to apologise to all my fans around the world,” he wrote.

“I’ve found myself in a dark place, due to suffering with depression. It’s no scheme for the media or to have my name in your mouths, I just find things hard truly.
