From ‘confusion’ to an ‘outburst’ – Italian media question Gimenez soap opera

The newspapers this morning have given some coverage to the saga surrounding Santiago Gimenez, which has had many recent instalments.

This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) recalls that there were many rumours swirling above Gimenez’s head in the final days of the transfer window, but in the end the Mexican remained at Milan.

Igli Tare’s statement shortly before the game in Lecce, in which he basically said “We’re trying to swap Gimenez for Dovbyk”, was certainly one that raised eyebrows from the fans because it is rare a director is so transparent.

Meanwhile, Gimenez’s father also spoke to ClaroSports yesterday about the final days of the transfer window and that has added fuel to the idea that there were some disagreements. The striker has the club’s backing, the paper adds, but it will be a two-way mission to get his confidence back.

Today’s edition of Tuttosport ran the following headline this morning: “Father of Gimenez: ‘Strange things have happened’.” The newspaper quoted Christian’s ‘outburst’, about how the situation was ‘confusing’ and made him feel ‘sick’ towards the end of the mercato.

Gimenez may have won his battle to remain at Milan – which he always wanted to do – but now he must repay the club’s investment while under added scrutiny given the way the last 72 hours of the window went, not by his own fault.
