Full Arsenal 25-man squad after deadline day with eight new signings

It was a busy end to the summer transfer window for Arsenal, with the Gunners confirming six deals on deadline day.

Piero Hincapie was the only arrival at Emirates Stadium on Monday. The 23-year-old defender joined from Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan with an option to buy in the region of £45million. football.londonunderstands that all parties expect the deal to be made permanent next summer.

The Ecuador international was the club's eighth summer arrival and was the last piece of the jigsaw as Mikel Arteta aims to challenge on all four fronts this term. Kepa Arrizabalaga was the first to arrive through the doors in a £5million deal from Chelsea, before long-term target Martin Zubimendi put pen to paper on a five-year contract. The Spain midfielder cost the north Londoners just over £55million and arrives with a big reputation.

Christian Norgaard was also signed from Brentford for £10mllion plus £2million in add-ons and Noni Madueke joined from Chelsea not long after, with Andrea Berta splashing out £52million on the Englishman. Defender Cristhian Mosquera arrived from Valencia in a deal worth at least £13million before Berta finally got his man in regards to a star striker. Viktor Gyokeres was signed from Sporting CP for an initial £55million plus around £8million in add-ons and the Swede already has two goals in three games.

Eberechi Eze looked destined to head to Tottenham before Arsenal hijacked the move and agreed to pay Crystal Palace £67.5million. Hincapie completed the incoming business on deadline day and if his move is made permanent as expected next summer, the Gunners would have forked out more than £300million on new talent.

As mentioned above, there were outgoings too. Jakub Kiwior joined Porto on a season-long loan, with the Portuguese side having an option to make the move permanent next summer for €27million (£23.4million), of which €2million (£1.7million) is add-ons. Albert Sambi Lokonga brought an end to his four-year stay in London as he joined Bundesliga side Hamburg for an undisclosed fee, while Fabio Vieira joined him at Hamburg in a loan deal which does include the option to make the move permanent.

Reiss Nelson (loan to Brentford) and Oleksandr Zinchenko (loan to Nottingham Forest) also departed on Monday, while Karl Hein joined Werder Bremen on loan earlier in the window. Jorginho, Thomas Partey, Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu were all released by the club, while Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos left for minimal fees to Lazio and Cruzeiro, respectively.

The transfer business means Arteta's squad for the next few months at least is complete. With injuries causing havoc in the Gunners camp last campaign, Arteta will believe he is better prepared to deal with such a crisis should it happen once more.

Suddenly David Raya has genuine competition and a decent back-up in Arrizabalaga, while the defence is stacked with talent. William Saliba and Gabriel can be afforded a rest, with Mosquera and Hincapie decent replacements throughout the season.

Arteta's favoured midfield three looks likely to be Zubimendi, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard but in Norgaard, Mikel Merino, Ethan Nwaneri and Eze, Arteta has a strong second choice midfield (although you could argue Eze starts, either in midfield or further forward). The same goes for the forward line, especially with the arrival of Madueke to offer cover and competition to Bukayo Saka. Gyokeres will be hoping to replicate his form from previous seasons in England, although Arteta does still have Kai Havertz and even Gabriel Jesus to call upon when fit.
