AC Milan’s CEO Giorgio Furlani has paid tribute to Rocco Commisso after his passing, for his tremendous passion for Italian football.

Fiorentina’s owner Commisso passed away over the weekend at the age of 76, leaving Italian football in a state of shock. It hasn’t been a great campaign for La Viola and this makes it more difficult, but they reacted with an emotional win against Bologna on Sunday.

There was actually a time when the Italian-American businessman could have become Milan’s owner, as La Gazzetta dello Sport recalled. It was back in 2018 when Yonghong Li’s ownership was on very shaky ground, though ultimately Commisso’s attempts to get a deal done fell flat.

Furlani was spoken to by reporters as he arrived at today’s Lega Calcio Serie A and he was asked for a his memories of Commisso.

Giorgio, a few words for Commisso…

“A truly wonderful person, whom I was fortunate enough to know, we will miss him. I wish there were more like him.”

What does he leave to Italian football?

“Well, I’m thinking of the huge investment in a wonderful facility like Viola Park. It’s a facility worthy of those we don’t have in Italy, and for which we’re behind English football. The hope is that all Italian clubs can follow this example.”
