Matteo Gabbia admitted that AC Milan made technical errors below the level of the players they have during the draw with Atalanta.
Milan led after just a few minutes at the New Balance Arena, with a shot from distance that went in after a corner, so there were a lot of parallels with the game against Pisa on Friday night. Just like that match at San Siro a few days ago, this one ended all square too.
Samuele Ricci was the man who got that opener tonight, though the Rossoneri retreated to try and defend it. By the time Ademola Lookman levelled things before the break few could argue with it on the balance of play, and 1-1 is how the score would stay.
It means back-to-back draws for Massimiliano Allegri’s side and while the result is not the worst in isolation given Bergamo is a difficult place to go, it does mean Napoli are now three clear at the top, with Roma and Inter having the chance to leapfrog Milan tomorrow.
‘A bitter taste’
After the full-time whistle went, Gabbia spoke to the DAZN cameras to give his thoughts on a tough night and the spoils being shared. MilanNews relayed his comments.
What is your reaction after a game like that?
“Honestly, we need to analyse the evening overall. We said it in the dressing room: in the first half, we could have done better technically in developing our play. The number of technical errors is too high for the players we are.
“The second half was better, we developed better moves. The team is united in both phases. We also deserve credit for our opponent. Our journey must continue; this match doesn’t leave us happy: we raised the bar among ourselves, we have high expectations for ourselves.

“We’ll do everything we can to improve and get back to winning ways. This team certainly has great potential in its players and staff. That’s precisely why we’re so eager to do well: obviously, you can’t win every game, but we must always give 100%.
“We need to recover, improve, work calmly and with great desire to have a great year. Today’s draw leaves a bitter taste in our mouths, but it also leaves us with great opportunities to improve.”
Is there a new-found defensive compactness?
“It’s definitely a great job by the staff and the coach, who deserves credit: he’s fixed a lot of things. We still have room for improvement; conceding goals doesn’t make us happy. We need to get back to not conceding them.
“The midfielders and forwards give us a huge hand, allowing us to be a compact team: it’s thanks to everyone that we’re able to concede fewer chances than in previous years.”
