Gallery: ‘Leao saves Milan’, ‘A crazy draw’ – Today’s front pages in Italy

AC Milan dropped points to a team at the bottom end of the table again on Thursday night, drawing 1-1 with Genoa at San Siro.

Daniele De Rossi’s men took the lead against the run of play in the first half when Lorenzo Colombo beat his compatriot and former team-mate Gabbia to a cross from the right side and managed to steer it in.

Genoa would hold onto that lead until the 92nd minute, when Rafael Leao rose highest to head in a corner to level the game. The drama wasn’t done there as Stanciu missed a penalty kick in the 98th minute and it eventually finished 1-1, but it is more points dropped against a lower-ranking team.

Today’s front pages

Below is how the Italian newspapers look this morning, and all four of the sports ones make reference to the tie at the Meazza.

La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Leao saves Milan. But Inter are move away. Only 1-1 at San Siro against Genoa. Allegri admits: ‘It’s a point earned’. Chivu, three points ahead, is one step away from the winter title.”

Corriere dello Sport: “Chivu is alone. Milan slow down. Inter run away: +3. Endless excitement at San Siro: Colombo puts Genoa ahead, Leao equalises in the 92nd minute, but in the 99th minute Stanciu misses the penalty that could have given Genoa the win. De Rossi scares Allegri and does his friend Cristian a favour.”

Tuttosport: “Milan-Genoa, a crazy draw. Siege on Leali, Leao goal, penalties claimed: then in the 99th minute Stanciu misses one for 1-2. After the ex-player Colombo’s strike, Allegri ‘sees’ a comeback but is stopped by Pulisic’s goal being denied and the protests of Füllkrug and Athekame, leading up to Bartesaghi’s unfortunate foul. In the end, San Siro celebrates, but Inter are three points ahead.”

QS: “Milan slow down, Inter runs away. The Red Devils can only draw 1-1 with Genoa. The Nerazzurri are three points ahead.”
