AC Milan booked their place in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia on Sunday night, beating Serie B side Bari 2-0 at San Siro.
It was a dominant performance from Milan in terms of possession and chances, with Rafael Leao’s header breaking the deadlock in the first half. Unfortunately the Portuguese then went off injured, with fears about a potential muscle problem.
The second goal came early in the second half with Christian Pulisic getting it after nice link-up play between him and Santiago Gimenez, who replaced Leao. Now, Lecce await at home in the next round, while Cremonese are the first league opponents on Saturday night.
Today’s front pages
The newspapers this morning are dominated by the Coppa Italia victory, given it is a few years since Milan played in it at such an early stage.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “The scent of Milan. Coppa Italia: through with Leao and Pulisic. 2-0 against Bari at San Siro. Rafa injured and goes off, but no worries. Flashes from Modric. Lecce await in the round of 32. Hojlund still out. The Diavolo are getting closer.”
Corriere dello Sport: “Milan soar: ‘Vlahovic option’. Leao, goal and alarm: he risks missing Cremonese. Tare: ‘We’re evaluating Dusan and also Hojlund’.”
Tuttosport: “Leao, injury dampens the joy. Max emergency. The Portuguese leaves immediately after the goal: calf problem, Cremonese at risk. Pulisic doubles the lead.”
QS: “Milan advance, but lose Leao. 2-0 against Bari, with Pulisic scoring too.”
