AC Milan will be making the trip home early from Saudi Arabia after losing their Supercoppa Italiana semi-final to Napoli on Thursday night.

Milan went into the competition with the hopes of defending the trophy that they lifted back in January. However, goals from David Neres before the break and Rasmus Hojlund just after the hour mark condemned the Rossoneri to an early journey home in an eventual 2-0 defeat.

Ahead of the other semi-final between Inter and Bologna tonight, the Italian newspapers are critical of Milan’s performance after another competition was exited early, following the Coppa Italia last-16 defeat to Lazio.

La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Damn, what a Napoli. Conte reaches the final, Milan have only the league left. Hojlund devastating, De Winter overwhelmed: 2-0. Allegri’s disappointment: ‘Let’s think about getting into the Champions League’.”

Corriere dello Sport: “Conte goes through. Neres and Hojlund, a great night. The Italian champions play the perfect game: a goal in each half and plenty of control. Sparks fly between Antonio and Allegri. The lion Rasmus makes the difference.”

Tuttosport: “Hojlund is super. Milan, zero in the cups. Two masterpieces from the Dane: the assist for Neres and the goal that made it 2-0. Conte is proud: ‘This is how you honour the Scudetto’. After the Coppa Italia, another objective slips away for the Rossoneri. Allegri: ‘We concede goals too easily’. Sensational: Milan-Como will be played in Perth with Asian referees!”

QS: “Milan, only the anger is super. Napoli wins 2-0 in Riyadh. Official: the game against Como in Australia.”
