AC Milan made a big early-season statement as they beat Napoli 2-1 at San Siro on Sunday night to go top of the table.
First half goals from Alexis Saelemaekers and Christian Pulisic ended up being enough for the Rossoneri to go top of the league on goal difference. Pervis Estupinan saw red in the second half and Kevin De Bruyne tucked away the penalty, but Napoli were unable to draw level.
Today’s front pages
This morning’s newspapers are rather predictably dominated by Milan’s exploits.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Milan were lions. They beat Napoli and tied them at the top with Roma. Saelemaekers and Pulisic scored, then the Devils held on with 10 men. Allegri: ‘If we play like this, we’ll win very often.’”
Corriere dello Sport: “Max and Gasp are also there. Milan and Roma are catching up with Napoli. Allegri stops Conte (2-1) and takes the lead with Gian Piero. Goals from Saelemaekers and Pulisic. De Bruyne (penalty) isn’t enough. Estupiñan sent off. Neres hits the post.”
Tuttosport: “What a devil, Pulisic! Milan lead the way. Assist and goal for the American. Estupinan sent off in the 57th minute, but Napoli are held to a penalty by De Bruyne (who later became furious about the substitution). Gasp also leads the way.”
QS: “Milan, Scudetto-worthy heart. The 10-man Rossoneri beat Napoli 2-1: Roma also top the table.”
