Gary Neville claims Sir Alex Ferguson would have fined Spurs man for Arsenal incident

Gary Neville believes that Thomas Frank should stamp his authority on the Tottenham squad by fining a senior Spurs star for a mistake in the club’s 4-1 defeat at Arsenal.

There is a lot to unpack for Frank after his side’s horror show in what was the biggest game of his Tottenham managerial career so far.

After the game, Frank reminded everyone that Spurs finished 17th last season, which went down well with the fan base.

It has now been suggested by an experienced pundit that the Dane should also react decisively to an incident which happened in the 70th minute.

Cristian Romero is suspended against Fulham

Romero was one yellow card away from a suspension heading into the North London Derby, and predictably, he did get booked at the Emirates, which means that the defender will play no part against Fulham on Saturday.

The centre-back picked up a booking for dissent, which made it even more frustrating for Tottenham, and Gary Neville has now revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson would have fined the Spurs captain for the incident.

Neville said on Sky Sports: “Just think about that Romero suspension for dissent. We had many fines at Manchester United when I played, but if we got booked for dissent, we got fined 10 per cent of our wages.

“He wouldn’t accept that. You might not think that of Sir Alex Ferguson; he was encouraging people to have a go at referees, but he actually didn’t like it.”

Why Frank cannot afford to fine Romero

Frank played down the controversial snub of Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven a couple of weeks ago, and one would expect him to do the same with Romero’s foolish moment.

The Dane can ill afford to lose any of his senior players at the moment, as that could be the start of the end for him at Tottenham.

One of the few things working to his favour now is the fact that the Spurs players have seemingly bought into Frank’s ideas, but that will not last if results do not improve quickly.
