AC Milan missed their latest penalty on Friday night, and there could be an argument made that it is becoming a hindrance more than a positive.
Penalties are certainly not a guaranteed goal; there is still a lot to do from the spot. Yet, Milan are undoubtedly struggling when given these golden chances to score. This weekend, it did not matter, but they must improve.
Milan’s 42% issue
As Gazzetta dello Sport write, since the start of 2024, the Rossoneri have had 19 penalties, and they have unfortunately missed eight of them. A quarter of those misses have cost them in games, too. For example, the issues in Florence last season.
Niclas Fullkrug is the latest name on the list, and he joins Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez on the list of current players to miss from the spot.
The expected goal amount for a spot kick is around 0.76, so you would be expected to score around three in four penalties. For Milan, as the report states, they have a 42% error rate, which is far below the expectation.
Fullkrug is probably not the first penalty taker in the squad, so whether he will be given another chance from the spot is unknown. Nevertheless, as a team, the Diavolo must improve.
