Massimiliano Allegri was waiting for Napoli when AC Milan called, and when they did, his choice was made for him. Now, that seems to be the biggest signing of recent years. 

Hiring a coach like Allegri provides a guarantee, and that is what Milan needed and wanted in the summer. After experimental coaches like Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao, the Rossoneri needed to go back to basics.

A coach who knew how to manage in Serie A and deliver results. Allegri, of those available, was at the top of the pile. Now, six months on, that has only been proved further, with his football clear as day, and his work visible to everyone.

Allegri’s reasons

Gazzetta dello Sport writes that the Italian is outside the brackets. He is not a relegation specialist, nor is he a reset; he is simply himself. You know what you get with him, and that is what makes him unique.

He knows what is needed and does not try to aim too high, as seen when he is asked about the Scudetto. It is in his mind, but the Champions League always leads his responses. In 13 attempts, he has made the European competition in 12 of them, with this season looking like it may be his 13th.

Each time that he has been in Europe, he has delivered substantial amounts of prize money. In fact, he has almost raised €1 billion in his career just from the Champions League. Just for qualifying this season, he could surpass that milestone.

Finally, there is the unavoidable fact that his team may surpass expectations and achieve a second star this season, too, which would be a fantastic achievement considering where the club was last season.
