The AC Milan squad were given another boost ahead of the derby as Franco Baresi was welcomed back to Casa Milan.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, the best news of the day is Baresi returning to Casa Milan, one of his favourite places and his workplace. It actually came last week and, like the first day of spring, it put the entire club in a good mood because the captain is always the captain.
Recovery continues
Back in August, the following statement was posted on the club’s website: “AC Milan announces that, following routine medical checks, our Honorary Vice President Franco Baresi was found to have a pulmonary nodule.
“It was decided that the best course of action was to remove it with a minimally invasive surgical procedure. The operation went well, and his recovery has been free of complications. Franco has since been assessed by an oncology specialist, who recommended a consolidative course of immunotherapy.”
Two lines below, there was also a comment from Baresi: “Dear fans, I want to let you know that it will take me some time to get back into shape. Thank you to AC Milan and to all of you for your support. With love, a hug.”

It was a bolt from the blue for everyone, because in recent years Baresi has been a discreet but constant presence. In June he had been at the Milan Club Margherita di Savoia, in May at Pieve di Soligo and the Aldo Bet Memorial, and in January he had flown with the team to Riyadh for the Supercoppa.
At the beginning of November, Baresi posted a message on social media again. Three words – ‘Viva la vita’ – under a photo of himself smiling next to a Rossoneri flag, one arm raised in salute. Symbolic: him, the flag in flesh and blood, in his most iconic gesture.
More than 2,600 people replied to that post, including many of his former team-mates and opponents. Now another step, a return to everyday life at Casa Milan. One day Baresi will recount these months of treatment, which must have been difficult, but it’s not the time yet.
