GdS: Allegri has ‘solidity and substance’ in Milan attack – why Gimenez is preferred

Santiago Gimenez is lacking goals in Serie A, but there is hope that he can turn around his fortunes soon. Perhaps this weekend.

There have been several chances for Gimenez to score this season. In fact, he has recorded more than 2xG and missed seven big chances. As numbers alone, the Mexican is struggling, and that is clear to see.

However, he is also helping in other aspects. His movement against Napoli contributed to Alexis Saelemaekers’ goal, so he is still providing value. In fact, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Mexican is still preferred for this weekend, as seen below.

Gimenez’s chance

The 3-5-2 has given the Rossoneri ‘substance and solidity’, something which was lacking at the start of the season with Rafael Leao’s injury. Christian Pulisic has stepped up, and whilst Gimenez has not helped with the numbers, he has done other work.

This weekend, it should be the same duo again, with the striker convincing Massimiliano Allegri that neither Christopher Nkunku nor Leao need to be rushed in. The door is opening, though, with both players growing closer to being ready.

For now, though, Gimenez provides aid, even without goals. If Allegri can add that final part to him, a very difficult scenario opens.
