GdS: Allegri’s ‘flop’ against Cremonese is nothing new – the data to prove it

AC Milan fell behind on the opening day of the new Serie A season, and now they will have to play catch-up to get back up in the standings.

It would be easy to say that Milan should have won yesterday. However, the 90 minutes on the pitch proved anything but that. Instead, the Rossoneri were broken down and beaten well, and this cannot be made into a habit.

Ideas were few, and Massimiliano Allegri’s side were vulnerable to the offerings from Cremonese. Rather than playing their game, they played how the visitors allowed them, a frustrating watch, indeed.

Allegri’s previous faults

Compared to last season, the performance was nothing new. However, Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanPress) recall stats from previous Allegri campaigns with the Rossoneri, which tell us that the result was not new either.

A ‘flop’ against a newly promoted side is not a first; in fact, it is now three games in a row where the Diavolo have lost against newly promoted sides with Allegri at the helm. In 2012, a 1-0 defeat against Sampdoria, and then in 2013, they lost 2-1 to Verona. Now, in 2025, with Allegri back, the 2-1 defeat at San Siro can be added to the list.

He will get chances to rectify the situation, but there needs to be more shown in these games.
