Seeing a teammate injured is never nice, but Zachary Athekame may be allowed to start for AC Milan as a result.
No one profits from an injury, especially when it is someone like Alexis Saelemaekers, who is seemingly integral to Massimiliano Allegri’s system. In fact, he has regularly been called the Italian’s favourite at the club.
However, after scans yesterday, Milan had it confirmed that he would miss this weekend’s game at minimum, with up to a month on the sidelines possible. There are no worries, but further scans will take place.
Athekame awaiting chance
As Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes this morning, though, this offers a chance for someone else to prove themselves, and Athekame believes it could be his. The paper writes that the Swiss defender wants his first start to round off a fantastic week.
As the only natural replacement on the right-hand side, the youngster may be given his first real opportunity, after a few cameos already this season.
Considering many had doubted him when he arrived, given that he is not a more senior option, there is a chance to prove himself to the fans, too, in a big game. Athekame believes, and he is determined to make it a week to remember.
