GdS: Blue and black to red and black – when Modric nearly joined Inter

Luka Modric is now one of the most treasured AC Milan players. However, in a different world, he could have been lining up for Sunday’s game in different colours.

A player like Modric will always have options, and this is showing currently. Already, there is talk about a move to Saudi Arabia if he does not choose to extend his deal with Milan, and in years prior to this, that interest has never really changed.

In fact, he fits a lot of what Inter have tried to recruit in recent years. So, it is no surprise that he was a target for them.

Modric and Inter?

The links to the Nerazzurri are not new, and it was discussed when he first signed. However, in the week before the derby, it has been revisited.

As Gazzetta dello Sport recall, in 2018, the midfielder was considering looking for a new challenge. So, when Inter discussed the idea, he became intrigued by the idea of moving to Milano, and a plan was laid out.

In fact, at one point, he said yes to the deal. However, the deal was halted by Florentino Perez, who demanded €750 million for him to leave Madrid. Then, Inter were hit with a lawsuit, with Los Blancos claiming the approach had been unlawful.

However, nothing further arose. This weekend, Modric could upset Inter once again, perhaps more deeply this time, in the colours of his rivals, as a reminder of what could have been.
