GdS: Chelsea and Dortmund centre-backs emerge as January targets for Milan

AC Milan are continuing their pursuit of a centre-back ahead of the January transfer window, having opted not to make a move for the veteran Thiago Silva. 

The last few games have certainly highlighted Milan’s flaws at the back, with the only real deputy – i.e. Koni De Winter – struggling massively to impress. In order to compete for the Scudetto and even the top four, it’s clear that a reinforcement will be needed.

Several players have been linked with the club in the last few weeks. A return for Thiago Silva was even mentioned by some outlets, but as stated by Fabrizio Romano in his latest video, the Brazilian definitely won’t play in Italy.

Two new targets emerge

As such, according to today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), Milan have set their sights on another German named Niklas, this time with a ‘K’ instead of with a ‘C’ as the striker target Niclas Füllkrug spells it. The player in question is Süle, who plays for Borussia Dortmund.

The 30-year-old has only played three games from start this season and since his contract will expire in the summer, a move appears doable. The problem is that he earns quite a lot at €6m per year, and even if he were to reduce the salary, it wouldn’t be a cheap deal for Milan.

In addition to Süle, the Rossoneri could turn to their ‘friendly club’ Chelsea for one of the outcast players. The 27-year-old Axel Disasi is the frontrunner in that sense, as there was even talk about this move in the summer.
