This weekend, AC Milan return home after a summer spent away. It is a week earlier than everyone would like. However, that is the price of a poor season.
Massimiliano Allegri pushed pre-season back in favour of preparing for the season sooner. After all, last season proved that there was work to be done. Though the decision also needed to take into account the earlier start time.
Serie A is not back for another week, but Milan will begin their season officially against Bari in the Coppa Italia, despite reaching the final last year. That is due to a season without Europe, meaning that the club now must start from scratch.
Fresh start
Of course, the fresh start can be tied to several things. The Rossoneri have a new sporting director, a new head coach and effectively a new team. However, it will also be a fresh start, quite literally on the pitch.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanPress), the surface at San Siro has been completely re-turfed and re-sewn after a summer of events. In fact, the report states that the playing field was given a ‘full make-over’.
The turf, as you would expect, is in an ‘excellent condition’, ahead of the first two games of the season, both of which will be played at home.
