At one point Mike Maignan seemed certain to be leaving AC Milan on a free transfer, but he was all smiles after renewing his deal on Saturday.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) report, Milan and Maignan have strengthened their bond, with the aim of continuing to write new pages of Rossoneri history together. He signed a new deal until 2031 which will see him earn €5m net per year plus bonuses, the same as Rafael Leao.

The club have closed with a happy ending a story that began in the summer of 2021 and has seen great satisfaction and some turbulence. Yesterday, to celebrate the signing, Milan dedicated six social media posts, with 33 photos and two videos. Thousands of comments from fans followed.

Still together

Milan retrace the stages of the story: “Mike immediately established himself as one of the group’s key figures, standing out for his leadership, reliability and spirit of sacrifice, until he became Captain and a central figure of the team. A steady growth that has also led him to become a pillar of the French national team.

“Wearing the Rossoneri jersey, Maignan made 188 appearances and was among the key players in the 2021-22 Scudetto triumph and the 2024 Supercoppa Italiana, milestones in a personal journey built over time with dedication, responsibility, and a deep sense of belonging to the Rossoneri colors. On an individual level, he was named Serie A’s best goalkeeper in the 2021-22 season.”

The winter of 2025 suggested a different ending. Mike’s uncertainties on the pitch fuelled the club’s doubts, and negotiations for a contract extension – with a corresponding salary increase – inevitably stalled.

The turning point came in the summer, with the arrival of Allegri (and goalkeeping coach Filippi). Now with a renewal in the bag, the former Lille man could soar to the podium of the most appearances for goalkeepers in the club’s history.

Christian Abbiati occupies the top spot with 380 appearances. Sebastiano Rossi takes the silver medal with 330 appearances. Nelson Dida is third with 302. Mike has now made 188 appearances for Milan across all competitions. Between now and 2031, between the league and cups, he can add plenty.
