GdS: From circus quote to Nkunku’s balloons – Max Allegri has transformed

Massimiliano Allegri has made it clear that results trump everything at AC Milan, but so far, they have combined that with entertainment.

Ever since Allegri was announced as Milan’s new manager, he has made it clear that results are all that matter. With the red and black shirt, the players need to understand that hard work needs to be put in every single day, rather than every now and then.

When Milan were up by three goals to nil against Udinese, Allegri was still visibly upset in the press box (he was suspended) and that just proves his high demands. Having said that, some things have seemingly changed a bit.

Circus Max

As highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport, the start of the season has been characterised by change. Man City’s Pep Guardiola, the tiki-taka god, achieved the worst possession of his life in the derby against Man Utd: 32%.

The attacking-minded and overwhelming Gasperini, now in charge of Roma, have seemingly changed to a result-focused style: three league wins with three goals. Meanwhile, the prophet of the result-focused style, Max Allegri, is enjoying great plays, many goals and even entertainment.

A symbolic image for this transformation, as the pink newspaper continues, arrived in the 51st minute of Milan-Lecce. Christopher Nkunku soared through the air like a trapeze artist, scissor-kicked the ball and then blew a balloon. His teammates, behind him, smiled in amusement.

Ladies and gentlemen, here’s Circus Max! Several years ago, the manager famously said “if you want entertainment, go to the circus”, but now he’s providing the entertainment himself. The illusionist Modric, the juggler Pulisic, and the strongman Fofana; the results are not the only things boosting the mood these days.
