GdS: Gomez, Rabiot, Dovbyk – Milan ‘hunt’ for three final summer signings

The mercato is reaching its end, and AC Milan are looking to make a few more deals yet this summer, in three different areas.

There has been a need for a ‘new tree’, as Fabio Capello put it, all summer. However, Milan have seemingly avoided this idea. Of course, they have added well in the midfield, but there are questions about the balance of the team.

Koni De Winter and Christopher Nkunku could add to this ‘tree’. But, these questions remain, so now there needs to be a look at the mercato in the final few days, it seems. After all, Massimiliano Allegri requested four additions last weekend.

Liverpool calling

This morning, Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write that the ‘priority’ is another defender, and the idea is Joe Gomez, after Manuel Akanji refused a move to the Rossoneri. The Swissman threw in the towel last night.

So, Gomez is the primary idea; however, it is reliant on things moving around, it seems. If the Englishman is to arrive, it would require Marc Guehi joining Liverpool, hence allowing his position to be freed.

Milan had previously considered Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, but the French duo are unavailable. Merih Demiral is also one to watch, but the preference is clearly Gomez.

Rabiot’s will

In the midfield, Adrien Rabiot’s strong hold is not fading; the Frenchman remains the favoured choice this summer. Contacts, as the report states, got ‘intense’ with his mother and agent last night, but Marseille are not aiding things.

The French club are not shifting from their €15 million demands, even though the relationship after his argument has not been mended. Ahead of next summer’s World Cup, Rabiot needs security that Marseille cannot offer.

A change in his €5m demands would also have to occur; there is a lot of work to do, but the Diavolo are willing. Today could be a big day for it, especially with him rejecting advances from England.

Final forward

Then, there is the final iron in the fire, Artem Dovbyk. The idea of a loan to buy agreement arose last night, and Frederic Massara did not deny that an exit could occur. Rather than a swap, it will be a move solely built around the Ukrainian.

Dovbyk would add some much-needed characteristics to Allegri’s team, and the demand is there. It is Dovbyk or nothing, it seems, and Gimenez has already stated that he will not leave.
