GdS: Hands tied as Milan forced to try unconventional strike partnership against Roma

This weekend, AC Milan have another big game ahead of them: Roma at the San Siro. However, they will have to be inventive.

The talk of the past few weeks has been injuries, and whilst Milan are slowly getting back up to a strong point, they are not there yet. So, there are still a few issues to contend with, whilst Massimiliano Allegi also has been forced to deal with more since the Atalanta game.

Rafael Leao and Santiago Gimenez are now risks for this weekend’s game, so, the options up front are slender.

Allegri forced to change

To cope with this, Allegri may have to combine two ideas. Recently, there have been suggestions that Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be moved into a second-striker role, with the idea being to play him next to Leao.

Then, Gimenez’s struggles have led to Allegri considering a start for Christopher Nkunku. Instead, it now seems he will have to combine the ideas, with Gazzetta dello Sport, via MilanNews, reporting that the ‘unfamiliar partnership’ could be tasked with starting this game.

It could certainly be an interesting combination, given both offer some traditional centre-forward qualities. However, with both being more known for their work in deeper positions, it will be a task for Allegri to get them to excel.
