GdS: Leao at Milanello despite rest day – Gimenez and Saelemaekers also present

Like yesterday, AC Milan have been given a day off today by head coach Massimiliano Allegri. However, not all of the squad are enjoying that.

Before January began, there was a heavy focus on the fact that Milan would play five games in 18 days. A tough run for any team, let alone one of the smallest squads in the division. However, the Rossoneri are making it through, even with key players struggling.

Leao turns up

One of those suffering is Rafael Leao, who has been touch-and-go for the past month, as has been regularly touched upon. Even before this weekend’s game, Allegri stated that he was not in great shape.

However, he still played 87 minutes, showing that he is willing to sacrifice himself for the team – which is another sign of his new mentality.

If any more proof was needed that Leao had matured since Allegri’s arrival, today, some information arrived from Milanello. As Gazzetta dello Sport writes, despite it being the second ‘off-day’ in a row for the first team, Leao was present.

In fact, he was the only unplanned player in the squad to show up at the training ground. The reasoning is simple, too; he knows that he needs to work more than others to recover. So, despite the offering from the coach for some rest, he was present.

Alongside Santiago Gimenez and Alexis Saelemaekers, who took a knock on Sunday, he took part in a personalised training session, hoping to return to full fitness as soon as possible.
