GdS: Leao now expected to miss Bologna game as calf discomfort persists

Some bad news has come from Milanello this morning, as Rafael Leao has effectively been ruled out of the game against Bologna.

According to the latest from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Leao will be missing in Sunday evening’s game at San Siro. His right calf is still not feeling well, after the injury sustained in the Coppa Italia match against Bari on August 17th.

Hopes evaporate

The optimism of the first part of the break has given way to caution. Leao didn’t return to training with the team on Tuesday and won’t today either because he is still feeling the discomfort. Milan will evaluate his condition over the next 48 hours, but hopes are slim to none.

Now, the mission is to have Leao back and close to 100% for the trip to face Udinese on Saturday 20 September. For the next game, Allegri will instead have to find a different solution to the attacking question he faces.

At this point, it’s important to know how Christopher Nkunku will be in the coming days. The team have been training since Tuesday for Sunday night’s match, and Nkunku wants his condition to improve quickly.

A few days ago, he only had half an hour of training in his legs, so it’s not easy to imagine him starting in his Rossoneri debut. Allegri will have an option off the bench at least, to give the travel-weary Christian Pulisic or Santiago Gimenez a rest.
