Many negatives have rigthfully been pointed out since last night’s 2-2 draw against Parma, but as highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport, there is at least one positive for AC Milan: Rafael Leao.
As the pink newspaper states, Leao scored once again and led the way for his side, but it wasn’t enough to give Milan the win. Just like against Parma, the No.10 celebrated and then watched the opponent come back from behind.
Still, Leao remains the best news from the Parma game. Not only because of the goal scored, and the confirmation of him as a penalty taker, but also for the attitude. He immediately got into the game and along with Luka Modric, he put in a proper shift in both phases.
Leao displays growth on all fronts
His defensive runs last night were as impressive as the counter-attacks at which he specialises. It’s a sign of great growth for the No.10, as he no longer lurks around just for the counter-attacks, but also takes a step down and helps out when needed.
Then, of course, his main contributions are still on the opponent’s half. Thanks to the goal last night, he’s now the Rossoneri’s joint-top scorer along with Christian Pulisic. Only two of his 75 goals for the club have come from the spot, but it certainly didn’t look the case.
His movement on the penalty, the feint, and then the strike, caused the Parma goalkeeper to react half a second late. Suzuki had predicted that the Milan star would shoot towards his right, but even though he guessed the right way, Leao’s shot was simply too accurate and powerful.
The numbers also speak for themselves: since the beginning of October, no player has been involved in more Serie A goals than Leao (four goals and one assist), tied with Bonny.
