AC Milan have still not been given the green light to sign Joe Gomez from Liverpool, and may be forced to look into alternatives as a result.
La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Milan consider the midfield to be sorted following the imminent arrival of Adrien Rabiot. While waiting to see what happens in attack, the management are also exploring the signing of a new defender.
Anxiety increases
The first name on the list is Liverpool’s Joe Gomez. After the deal for Manuel Akanji fell through, the Englishman has emerged as the primary option and there was even talk of a €15m agreement being imminent.
Crystal Palace had asked for him on loan as part of the Marc Guéhi deal, but received a firm no. However, doubts are now growing about whether Gomez will make the switch from Anfield to San Siro.

Yesterday, he came on late in the win against Arsenal, because of Ibrahim Konaté’s injury. Arne Slot downplayed the issue but it’s clear the Frenchman’s condition will be assessed after the tests that he will undergo.
Furthermore, the Reds haven’t yet signed the other defender they’re pursuing, which is Guéhi. Liverpool offered £35m plus 10% of the future transfer fee, but were not given the green light. Until that arrives Gomez will not be allowed to go.
The Rossoneri must also evaluate other options to be prepared if Gomez ultimately can’t leave. Caleb Okoli of Leicester is a solution and could even arrive on loan. Josip Sutalo could leave Ajax, but for now, he’s not a hot target. Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana is not on the market.
