AC Milan and Mike Maignan have reached an agreement for a contract renewal, with the goalkeeper now just a signature away from a sizeable pay rise.
It has been in the works for quite some time, but Milan have finally got the Maignan negotiations over the line. Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto broke the story last night, stating that a verbal agreement has been reached for everything, including the agent commission.
As added by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (see photo below), the negotiations are now ‘complete’ and that means Milan won’t have to worry about other clubs swopping in for a free transfer. For a player of his calibre, that is obviously a huge relief.
Happy days for everyone
While there are still some details to be ironed out, Maignan’s signature is no longer up for discussion: all parties are working to close the matter as soon as possible. Not to mention that the goalkeeper has been determined to remain for quite some time.
The Rossoneri’s renewed ambitions and the presence of Massimiliano Allegri (and his staff, especially coach Claudio Filippi) are a guarantee of competitiveness. And Mike, in his professional career, has always been obsessed with winning.

The contract renewal will be long-term and, above all, generous: the player’s salary will increase from the current €3.2m to the €5m plus bonuses per year. At 30 years old, he will effectively double his salary, getting the same amount as Rafael Leao.
Of course, the renewal is also something that the club wanted a lot, making an exception to the usual salary policy. Thanks to the decisive performances, as well as the leadership through the captain’s armband, Milan felt it was absolutely essential to keep Maignan.
The Frenchman said yes immediately to the big offer and didn’t make a counteroffer, which says a lot about his willingness to remain.
Important milestone ahead
Magic Mike, as he’s nicknamed, could soon step onto the podium of the most capped Milan goalkeepers in history. Christian Abbiati leads the line with an impressive 380 appearances, while Sebastiano Rossi is second with 330 appearances.
Nelson Dida is in third place with 302, so Maignan still has some catching up to do with his 187 appearances. However, once the renewal until 2031 has been signed, the fact that he has many years to reach the podium will be made official.
