GdS: Maignan will sign Milan renewal this afternoon – final details sorted

3 days ago 35

Mike Maignan will sign his new contract with AC Milan today, according to a report, and he will receive a significant pay rise for it.

After a long and tiring saga, with back and forths from both parties, Maignan is finally ready to put pen to paper. An agreement has been reached with Milan for the contract renewal and with just five months left on his deal, you could definitely say it was in the nick of time.

According to today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), the contract signing will actually take place at Casa Milan this afternoon. Milan’s next game isn’t until Tuesday evening, so the goalkeeper isn’t busy with matchday preparations this weekend.

Details now ironed out

The goalkeeper’s agent, Jonathan Kebe, was at Casa Milan yesterday and the final details were ironed out by the parties. The new contract will be a four-year renewal with an option for a fifth year, effective July 1st (i.e. when the current deal has expired).

This will keep him at the club until at least 2030, or one more year if the option is triggered,  and the new salary will be €5m plus €2m in bonuses per year. Considering that he earns €3.2m per year now, that’s a significant pay rise indeed.

Some of the bonuses are also ‘easy’, such as qualifying for the Champions League, so Maignan will most likely get more than the base €5m every year. As for the agent commissions, they never ended up being a problem thanks to Maignan’s willingness to stay and Milan’s persuasion.

Although the contract signing is scheduled for today, it’s not certain Milan will announce the renewal immediately. Only time will tell on that one, though.
