There are only two clubs that are spending less on wages this season compared to last; those are AC Milan and Inter.
This summer, Milan had a bit of a revamp in the squad. Several players left, and several more arrived; what seemed like a decent operation became a heavyweight one very quickly. It happens, of course, but the Rossoneri went big.
Of course, some big exits needed to occur for things to get moving. However, there can be arguments about the benefits of these decisions. Tijjani Reijnders left, and now the midfield looks better than it did with him in it.
Wage change
With the amount of transfers this summer, it would make sense if the wage situation had changed a bit, and it has.
Gazzetta dello Sport, today, have looked at the spending of different teams, and the Diavolo’s wage bill is down by €10 million: €95m compared to the €105m they spent on wages last season. However, they failed to sign a striker, so that figure will probably rise next summer.

The idea was Dusan Vlahovic, but he remains a big issue on the Juventus wage books, with his €22m gross wage still taking a bit hit on the books. Yet, the Bianconeri are not the biggest spenders.
Instead, that mantle goes to Inter, who are spending €137.3m per year, which is actually €5.6m less than last year. Napoli follow, with a €41m increase from last season’s wage bill of €92m, then Juventus (€131m), Roma (€107.5m) and then Milan.
It is worth noting that last season, the Partenopei spent €3m more on wages than the Rossoneri currently are, another similarity.
