After his most recent goal for AC Milan, the talking points surrounding Luka Modric revolve around his future and when it will be decided.
When he arrived, Milan signed Modric on a one-year deal, with the option to extend for another season if all parties agreed. Within the first few months, if not sooner, the Rossoneri were certain that they wanted him to stay.
However, the Croatian’s point of view has never been so clear. In fact, it has always seemed like it would be later in the season for his decision.
Modric’s future
It is not to say that Modric is unhappy, he loves life in Milano, he is playing great football and the Diavolo have become infinitely more competitive since he arrived. However, he is not getting any younger and the World Cup was supposed to be part of his decision.
However, this morning’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) states that a decision will be made in May.
Milan have ‘pushed with all their might’ and believe that there is a chance to stay, especially as they are so close to Champions League qualification and not out of the Scudetto race. Though the decision, as it always has, rests on Modric.
In the meantime, the management will keep trying to convince him to stay, and they believe that they can give him a more competitive environment with the Champions League qualification. It is not impossible, but challenging, certainly.
