GdS: Milan eyeing want-away Bayern star with an eye on Modric – the obstacle

It was reported this morning that AC Milan are considering a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, but there are a few doubts.

As February nears, we will learn a lot about which players will leave their clubs this summer once their contracts finish. Of course, there are hints now, but once the mercato closes, movements can start to be made.

It seems increasingly likely that Milan will be active in this market as well, with links to Bernardo Silva continuing at this moment. However, he may not be the primary target.

Goretzka to Milan?

Gazzetta dello Sport writes that we must wait to see how the January mercato unfolds, and then the focus shifts to the pre-contract situation. Right now, Goretzka’s name is prominent, and he could be one of the midfield options next season.

He turns 31 next month and can play anywhere in the midfield, so his contract expiring presents an opportunity. However, it only does if the parameters are right.

Right now, he earns €7 million per season, which would have to be lowered if he moved to Italy. Then, it seems his agent fees would also add a pretty penny onto the deal. Additionally, the future of Luka Modric must be considered.

If he remains, a move for Goretzka may be made much more difficult, and it seems unlikely that the Diavolo would remove him for the sake of the German.
