Pervis Estupinan’s move to AC Milan was a strange one and replacing Theo Hernandez was always going to be difficult. However, it is proving to be a challenge.
Davide Bartesaghi is fine, and in many ways, he has taken the reins that Theo left in the summer. However, the actual replacement is struggling, and it is massively noticeable for Estupinan, unfortunately.
Estupinan’s errors
Throughout this year, he has made quite a few errors, and this is why Bartesaghi has been deemed the starting option more often than not. When he was given a chance this weekend, though, rather than changing the narrative, he only fed it more.
As Gazzetta dello Sport writes, ‘Milan have a problem’ if he is unable to return to his previous levels. The same simple errors are made repeatedly, whether it is technical mistakes or poor decisions, it is a constant issue.
It seems, then, that he may head to the shadows for a period and wait for a transfer, perhaps. Of course, Allegri may need him – maybe as soon as this week, if Bartesaghi plays centrally again – but the mistakes cannot continue.
His prior experience shows how good he can be, and he must discover that. Failing to do so would only open up questions about an exit.
