GdS: Milan ‘never win’ without Modric in the team – the point difference he brings

There is a fact being proven in the AC Milan team. Without Luka Modric, they struggle more, and the points show this idea too.

A few doubters were in place when Modric signed in the summer, and since then, those have only been erased. The Croatian has proven to be the big game player on numerous occasions, but even in smaller games, his impact is still clear.

Even at 40-years-old, the midfielder is a class above and without him, the Milan midfield feels somewhat without; whether it is on a quality level, or just the motivation to demand more from everyone.

Modric vital to Milan

This morning, Gazzetta dello Sport writes the facts clearly. In the Coppa Italia, the midfielder didn’t start and the Rossoneri bowed out against Lazio, and the same against Napoli in Saudi Arabia. Then, this weekend, Fiorentina in the league.

There is no shame in wanting him available all the time; he is still a world-class footballer and very few players in the world can still match his impact. Elsewhere, he may only be valuable, but in Milano, he is decisive.

Massimiliano Allegri wants players who can intelligently run the game, and the Croatian provides that to a tee. He completes the most passes in every category, from short to long, progressive to deliveries. It is undeniable that he is in charge.

With Modric in the starting XI, the Rossoneri have won 39 points in 18 Serie A games, averaging 2.17 points per game. Then, there are five games where he has not started this season; two wins in the Coppa Italia bring up the aforementioned other cases.

As a result, the points difference stands at 0.77 per game, given that without him, Milan have only earned 1.4 points (hypothetically) per game. His impact is clear, as is the fact that the Rossoneri need him in the team.
