GdS: Milan planning to scout Parma star this weekend ahead of January mercato

2 hours ago 46

As has been done previously, it seems AC Milan will use this weekend’s game against Parma as a chance to scout a potential signing or two.

There are few better chances to scout a player than when they play against you. It is a regularly used method, and Milan have utilised it on many an occasion, with the latest chance set to happen this weekend.

The chance

On Saturday, as Parma welcome the Rossoneri, there will be a chance to watch two players. Firstly, Zion Suzuki, whom the club have watched very closely, and, as Gazzetta dello Sport write this morning, Mateo Pellegrino, as seen below.

The Argentine forward has already been given positive reports from the Diavolo, and with ‘considerable’ potential, he could be brought in as a reinforcement, potentially as early as the January mercato.

However, with it probably being a loan-to-buy situation, there are already doubts about whether Parma would be willing to lose their star striker.

Signs of growth

The son of Mauricio Pellegrino, Mateo, made his debut for Velez while his father was the coach. Now, he has scored two goals in Serie A this season, but he is still only developing. Whilst he may already be comfortable in Serie A, it is still only his first year in Italy.

A classic No. 9, standing at 6’2″, he would fit Massimiliano Allegri’s striker mould to a tee, whilst also being able to press heavily and work well with his teammates, requirements which any new signing must have.

Last year, he scored three in the top flight; there is potential for much more this season, and beyond.

Hypothetically, he would arrive at Milan with an advantage compared to most other targets. He already knows the league – so he would not have to adjust – and his price tag shouldn’t be too ludicrous.

A move that potentially makes sense.
