AC Milan concluded their schedule of summer friendlies with a heavy defeat at Chelsea, though there were some mitigating circumstances.
Having played Leeds United in Dublin on Saturday, Massimiliano Allegri made 10 changes to the line-up, including using Andrei Coubis and Filippo Terracciano as centre-backs in a three-man defence.
The lack of experience showed, as a Coubis own-goal and a Joao Pedro strike put them home side in command, and then the Romanian saw red for a last-man challenge not long after.
Liam Delap scored twice in the second half including a penalty, either side of Youssouf Fofana’s consolation from a nice Alexis Saelemaekers assist. A 4-1 defeat was the full-time score, but Allegri was not panicking after the game.
Chelsea vs. Milan: La Gazzetta’s ratings
Despite conceding four, Mike Maignan was given a 6.5 out of 10 by La Gazzetta dello Sport for the saves he did make. Saelemaekers was the only one to get the same mark from the paper.
Fofana, Rafael Leao and the substitute Luka Modric were given a passing grade of 6, while Terracciano and Ruben Loftus-Cheek got half a point less. Fikayo Tomori, Davide Bartesaghi, Yunus Musah and Samuele Ricci were given a 5, and Coubis got a 4 for a disastrous cameo.
