AC Milan are continuing to work on Mike Maignan’s contract renewal, following a meeting with his agents, but the parties still need to finalise the commission.
After a rather turbulent period, with several exit rumours and stalled negotiations, Milan and Maignan seem to be on the right track. The timing couldn’t be any better either as the goalkeeper is thriving on the pitch, clearly happy with his current situation at the club.
That said, the negotiations haven’t been finalised yet and the goalkeeper could still receive offers from elsewhere. The feeling, however, is that Milan will get the deal over the line in the next few weeks as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning.
One more meeting, hopefully
Some had predicted the deal to be closed after the in-person meeting between the parties just a few days ago, but that won’t be the case. Milan still need to agree on the commission for Maignan’s agents, which will not be insignificant, and thus a little more time is needed.

In the meantime, teammates, Allegri and staff members are pushing for Maignan to sign the renewal, and the goalkeeper himself is seemingly set on remaining. In fact, he has already said yes to the new salary: €5m plus bonuses per year until 2031.
There also won’t be any release clause in the new contract, which shows that Milan and Maignan don’t just view this as a bridge renewal. Instead, they want to continue together for several years and build on the current success.
A new meeting should take place next week, or possibly the week after, to try to reach an agreement on the commission front. If all goes well, then the parties will be able to sign the deal.
