Luka Modric takes preparation for games to a new level, and he has continued this trend since joining AC Milan.
Today’s La Gazzetta dello Sport has done a deep-dive into how Modric is still able to perform at an elite level despite being 40 years of age. It stretches from his diet to having a personal coach to work on his form and fitness, but a lot of it is in the mind too.
Serie A marathon
Modric also uses his mind to stay sharp. How? By studying his opponents in detail. Taking advantage of the international break – despite being busy with his national team – the Croatian watched every match from the first two rounds of Serie A.
On Saturday, during the pre-game retreat, he took part in another football marathon. Firstly he watched Juventus’ thrilling 4-3 win over Inter (after the end of training) and then he sat down for Fiorentina versus Napoli.
It’s ‘part work, part passion’ as per the paper. Luka lives for football, literally. And that’s also why he chose Milan, his favourite team growing up. He likes to study upcoming opponents and get ahead of the curve, something he is still managing to do even at the age of 40.
