GdS: Saelemaekers in doubt but Pavlovic back – the indications ahead of Roma clash

Alexis Saelemaekers’ streak of consecutive starts is at risk of ending this weekend against Roma, a report claims.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write this morning, Saelemaekers is clearly irreplaceable for Massimiliano Allegri, as shown by the fact that he has started 21 games out of 21 in Serie A. However, last Sunday, against Lecce, he left the pitch early after suffering a hamstring strain.

Rome return in doubt

His injury is nothing serious, but his availability for the trip to the Stadio Olimpico at the weekend remains uncertain. The Belgian – who played for Roma last season, scoring seven goals – also trained individually yesterday. Much will depend on the player’s feelings and his response to training.

It would be a positive sign to see him back with the group today, confirming a rapid recovery. However, if he continues with individual work, it’s unlikely he’ll be back on the pitch as soon as Sunday. Zachary Athekame would come in his place.

Strahinja Pavlovic, however, will be back. He was injured against Fiorentina after an aerial collision with Comuzzo, he missed the Como match and was on the bench last Sunday. Now he is ready to return and the head wound – which required nine stitches – will probably be protected by a helmet.
