GdS: Saved by the goal – Leao’s ‘two-faced’ performance vs. Genoa

AC Milan had Rafael Leao to thank last night, as he scored the equalising goal late on. However, it was not one of his finest games in the shirt.

Given the expectations placed on Leao, the scrutiny on his performances is extremely high. However, he is just returning from an injury, and he is still not 100% ready for action. So, a bit of leeway must be given. After all, he is not going to be at his best just yet.

Leao struggles, but…

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that, right now, he is not in the best of form. Despite playing for 90 minutes, his impact on the wider game was minimal and Massimiliano Allegri confirmed as much when speaking to the media after the game.

As MilanNews relays, the Portuguese was ‘imprecise, ineffective and unamusing’ for most of the game, which is probably slightly harsh. However, his goal was needed and when it mattered, he scored a goal.

We dream that stars will always be visible, and in an ideal world, they always are. However, considering he is not at 100%, if he can only shine briefly, when it matters most in games, then for now, that is more than enough.

Gazzetta writes that without the goal, the outlook on his performance would be much different. The word ‘if’ does a lot of heavy lifting. Whilst he was not perfect, he was still decisive. Ultimately, that is what matters.
