Rafael Leao is one of the brightest talents in the world, yet his destiny is still unknown at AC Milan; many options remain.
The two goals against Fiorentina were a clear reminder that Milan can enjoy the very best of Leao this season, perhaps thanks to the work already done with Massimiliano Allegri. However, everyone knows that he is not a complete article yet.
Allegri has not had the Portuguese during his complete tenure, so the work he has done pre-injury and post-injury cannot be judged too highly. If we are to, then the judgment would probably be fairly mixed anyway.
Seven words, one Leao
With this, Gazzetta dello Sport has looked at seven words that could define the star moving forward.
It starts with a smile. Whether you watch him at his best or his worst, the smile is always present, and it is known across the world. A defining trait, and something that may only grow with Allegri’s aid. Following that is ‘strain’, after all, the forward can terrorise defences with ease, out wide or centrally.
The next two come hand in hand: ‘evolution’ and ‘area’. Allegri wants Leao to be a striker now, something which would see him invert from his natural spot on the wing. However, he has a special history with goals. In fact, 64 of his 73 goals for the Rossoneri have come in the box, proving he can be dangerous there. His first against Fiorentina, though, proves he is not limited.
Then, the final words all relate again. From this point, Leao can be the leader, the light, and the reference to his team. If he sees out his contract in Milano, he will have been at the club for nine years, which would put him alongside legends.
To make that spot his own, though, he needs to further establish himself as a leader in the team, in goals and performance. He already inspires others, but now he must lead them too.
