GdS: ‘The duel for Hojlund’ – where Milan stand as Napoli enter race for Man Utd forward

2 hours ago 1

The injury to Romelu Lukaku and Napoli’s subsequent pursuit of a new striker could be bad news for AC Milan, a report claims.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) report this morning, Milan are looking for a centre-forward to provide an alternative to Santiago Gimenez, but as we enter the final part of the transfer window no one name seems imminent.

The first English is Rasmus Hojlund of Manchester United, but Napoli have moved for him too. Milan has the advantage of having made progress earlier, but they are not yet at the finish line, and the Dane’s desire to have guarantees over a permanent move remains the big obstacle.

Then there’s the difference in valuations between the clubs and over the formula. Napoli entering the scene doesn’t seem to have prompted the Rossoneri to step on the gas: instead they feel they have done enough, so now it’s up to Hojlund and United to meet them.

The alternatives

If it doesn’t happen, other profiles are being looked into. One is Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea who will leave before the window closes but until now the request has been €50m and only a permanent sale has been considered.

Breel Embolo of Monaco is older (28) than the aforementioned and the fact he has a contract expiring in the summer of 2026 lowers his value to less than €15m. However, he scored six league goals last season, and one in the Champions League.

The first alternative to Hojlund remains Dusan Vlahovic. The Bianconeri player could ultimately be the guarantee: he knows Serie A better than the others, and the price could be affordable if Juve were to permanently exclude him from the squad.

The timing remains uncertain for everyone: Milan are in a hurry and want a striker in this week, but at present the economic terms to proceed with the Serbian are not there. Time, in that sense, could be an ally too.
