GdS: ‘The magic returns’ – Maignan decisive again with some help from Filippi

AC Milan and Massimiliano Allegri have many reasons to smile after the win over Roma, and one of them is Mike Maignan.

Maignan was decisive again from the penalty spot after some time without having saved one. He kept Paulo Dybala out from 12 yards late on in the game, and in the process he secured a vital three points for Milan in front of their home fans.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) recall how Maignan warned his team-mates after the game that nothing has been achieved yet and that there are a lot of games remaining before there will truly be something to celebrate.

It’s too early to dream of the Scudetto and we must take it one game at a time. It’s November. It’s true that we have big goals, but let’s not get too big for our boots now,” he said.

These were the words of one of Milan’s main leaders, who was embraced by the entire team after Marco Guida’s final whistle, all of whom knew full well how crucial the Frenchman was with that save.

Maignan added: “I was confident [that he could save it] and my team-mates had faith in me. That was a decisive moment. I’m happy with the contribution I made to the team.

Mike certainly received the right advice from Claudio Filippi, the Rossoneri’s goalkeeping coach who arrived this summer, and who knows Dybala well from his Juventus days.

It’s a shame that everything is still a bit bitter because his contract expires next June, with a renewal becoming more and more unlikely with each passing day.
