GdS: ‘The strange couple’ – Leao and Pulisic heading for second league start together

2 days ago 7

This season, AC Milan have dreamed of being able to field Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao together. However, they have rarely been given the chance to do so.

In the Milan squad, if there were two players that you wanted to consistently play together, it would be Leao and Pulisic. They are the stars which the team can rely on for goals, and whilst they have thrived alone, their chances together have been occasional.

Injuries have stopped them from combining as often as most would have liked. Hopefully, though, the end of the tunnel is near.

Leao and Pulisic together again

As Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes, San Siro is ready to see the duo combine once again after 24 days apart. Genoa are expected to be the next side forced to deal with two of the best attackers in the league.

There is a possibility that it will not be from the start of the game, but it seems guaranteed that the two will combine for at least a portion of the 90.

Christopher Nkunku is still recovering from injury, whilst Niclas Fullkrug is not yet ready to start a game. So the road seems to have cleared for the duo to create ‘magic’ once more from the start.

Magic again

In Serie A, they have only played together for 136 minutes, but both have scored in this period, as they average a goal every 68 minutes when playing alongside each other. Despite the Portuguese not being fully fit, he may be the only choice.

If this is the case, it would be a nice gift for Massimiliano Allegri, who has struggled to find them together. Of course, the idea to play them both in the middle is his idea, and so far, he has not been able to fully reap the rewards of his genius. As Gazzetta puts it, the ‘strange couple’ are set to return, and they want to impress.
