GdS: Top four declaration, Scudetto prediction – Allegri’s words intrigue after Verona win

AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri had some interesting reflections after his side cruised to a win over Verona to close 2025.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) recall this morning, despite his team being three goals up, Allegri experienced the second half of the second half of the match against Hellas Verona as if the match was still in the balance.

There was shouting, frequent back-and-forths from the bench to the sidelines, discussions with his coaching staff, and more shouting. The reason? He wanted his team to manage the ball better, even with a lead.

“The risk at 3-0 is conceding goals, and that’s never nice. We could have faced fewer crosses if we’d maintained a dynamic and not static possession. We’d conceded too many easy goals lately; we’d become a bit unsteady,” were his post-match comments to explain his agitation.

What is the target?

Allegri doesn’t want to show it too much, but he’s satisfied with what his team are doing. However, he wants his players to maintain high levels of concentration because they haven’t achieved anything yet, and between now and February the Rossoneri will have a lot at stake.

“I’m satisfied with what we’re doing, but we mustn’t let our guard down. The group of players I have is extraordinary, always available: sometimes I even struggle to get angry. We need to be good at maintaining this enthusiasm,” he added.

“Against Verona, I gave several players playing time in the final stages of the match because between now and mid-February we have a lot of commitments and we’ll really need everyone: it will be an important period.”

Milan are currently second in the league table, one point off the top spot, but Allegri remains unwilling to talk about the Scudetto: “We need to keep working calmly to get back to playing in the Champions League. It won’t be easy. We absolutely mustn’t talk about the Scudetto, we just need to do.

“Think little, run a lot. Improve the things we can improve, which are many, and set aside the things we’ve done well. The Scudetto quota is between 82 and 84 points, but it could become 86.” Who knows why he made these calculations, if he’s not thinking about the Scudetto…
