The derby between Inter and AC Milan in one week is expected to break the record for the highest box office revenues in Italian football history.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) recall, last season’s first league derby between Inter and Milan – the one decided by Matteo Gabbia’s header in the final minute – to date stands as the highest-grossing Serie A match ever.
Yet, the derby scheduled for next Sunday evening between the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri could even surpass the €7,626,430 Inter earned just over a year ago. The crowd was precisely 75,366: not a single seat was available, the enthusiasm palpable on both sides, with San Siro sold out.
That’s exactly what the Meazza will be like in exactly one week. Also because, on the pitch, Inter and Milan are (almost) at the summit together, and the derby has returned to being a top-of-the-table clash, one that will weigh heavily on the points tally.
The fans are dreaming again. Anticipation is rising, the classic derby tension is rising in the city, and even those who haven’t yet secured access to the stadium still have time to do so. To contribute to the record.

Sell-out expected
Currently, the very last available seats are still available for sale online. Starting early next week (more precisely, tomorrow or Tuesday, once the last remaining tickets have been sold), Plus and Full season ticket holders will be allowed to resell their tickets officially.
Last season, this platform allowed members to resell over 30,000 tickets, generating (at the final total) a total of €1m from resales. Fans are also growing interested in the ‘Hospitality’ experience, which Inter has invested heavily in this new season, expanding the dedicated rooms and upping the price a bit.
There is some uncertainty about what the Curva Nord and Curva Sud will do. The halt to recent protests and the return of chanting and singing bodes well, so there is hope that two choreographies will unfold at kick-off, something only the Milan derby can offer.
